Helping raise funds for the vulnerable here in Canada! You don't need to go overseas to see poverty and need, just look down the street.

I'm proud to partner with Penny Appeal Canada this Ramadan to help those in need, right here at Home!

Most of us, when we think of charity during Ramadan, we think about those in developing countries who are struggling, and sometimes overlook our neighbours down the street. If Covid-19 taught us anything, it's that there are many people who are on the brink of major issues and problems, and that's where Penny Appeal Canada steps in.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic we have seen the gap of inequality widen.  People who were once paying Zakat last year, are now the ones receiving it.  Statistics show Transitional Shelter's for Women are seeing an increase in calls; Mental Health hotlines are overwhelmed; healthcare workers need PPE; and food insecurity is a major concern.

This is why I decided to team up with Penny Appeal Canada, because they are already tackling all of those issues mentioned above and will continue to do so during Ramadan and beyond. I'm proud to be all in on #TeamOrange!

Here's the Domestic Partnerships and Programs Penny Appeal Canada is involved with:

Penny Appeal Iftaar Program:

Penny Appeal Canada is distributing Iftaar's to Zakat recipients and needy families across the Golden Horseshoe.  These families are the most vulnerable and the help of a simple Iftaar meal to you and I, is priceless to them. When you donate to Penny Appeal at Home, this is the kind of program you're donating to!

NASEEHA MENTAL HEALTH:

Penny Appeal Canada will be implementing an online therapy program in collaboration with Naseeha. Certified professionals will guide you through the Covid-19 global pandemic and any other issues you would like to seek help with.

SMILE:

Penny Appeal Canada will be sponsoring a full-year of group therapy sessions and scholarships to fund respite service, adaptive equipment and/or direct therapy.

Sakeena Homes (Transitional Shelter for Women):

Penny Appeal Canada will be assisting Sakeenah Homes with the opening of their new transition home for Muslim women and children in Brampton. This will be a place for individuals that are going through pain and need to turn to a place for comfort and transition to a life that we all deserve.

The home will opening May 1st, 2020.

NISA Homes (Transitional Shelter for Women):

Penny Appeal Canada will be assisting Nisa Homes with the opening of a new transition home in Ottawa for Muslim women and children fleeing domestic violence, experiencing homelessness, poverty or forced resettlement. Their goal is to open 10 transitional homes across Canada by 2022 and we will partner with them to make sure they reach this goal.

National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM):

Penny Appeal Canada will be partnering with NCCM to magnify the impact of the advocacy work to protect all Canadians of their human rights and civil liberties. Canadian Muslims are invested in the progress and continued success of our nation and we need to ensure everyone is made aware of our commitment.

DEEN Support Services:

Penny Appeal Canada will be providing funds to DEEN Support Services to help newcomers with intellectual disabilities in Canada learn English and vital life skills through a day program. DEEN operates programs for individuals with disabilities and ensures they are provided the same opportunities as everyone else.

OBAT Canada:

Penny Appeal Canada will provide support for 68 cataract surgeries to OBAT Canada's Eyesight Restoration Program for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

Penny Appeal Protects:

Penny Appeal Canada is working At Home to ensure frontline workers across Canada that are responsible for the health and wellbeing of Canadians have access to medical supplies, such as personal protective equipment (PPE).

Canadian Muslim Response Network (CMRN):

Penny Appeal Canada was part of the CMRN which helped deliver Relief kits to the most vulnerable amongst our community including those self-quarantined, self-isolated, single parents, and the elderly.  The Relief Kits consisted of food items, sanitation products and hygiene products. Together, we were able to help out approximately 3500 families in total.

Join me in fulfilling this great Sunnah of taking care of family members, neighbours, and community first.
