Help me build a water well for the needy in Yemen with Salam Charity

It took me a while to decide which cause I should fundraise for. How could one choose when there are numerous causes out there worthy of our attention? I am going to focus this fundraising on the clean water project.

With the help and support from you all, I know we will be able to achieve our target to make this project possible.

The Current Situation in Yemen…

Cholera and Acute Water Diarrhoea (AWD) devastated Yemen in 2017 in one of the worst outbreaks in human history. The country is still recovering after 1.3 million people were infected and almost 3000 people tragically died.

2019 has seen a dramatic increase in AWD cases (UNICEF, 2019) and the people of Yemen need life saving water more than ever.

It costs £1500 per deep well due to the geography of the country and will help an entire community in Taiz, Lahj Governate, Yemen.

Who will the well help…

The well will provide clean water to around 50 families in the local village. That’s MORE than 250 individuals that one well could help every single day for around 5 years.

Change begins with you…

Thousands of people will continue to die each year unless we all act now. With your help we can provide water to some of the poorest areas in the world and help them escape poverty once and for all. With your help we can make sure that children are not deprived of an education because of a lack of water.

By sparing your change for our Wishing Wells project you can provide lifesaving water to thousands of people.

The current global situation…

Over 800 million people around the world do not have access to clean drinking water. Forced to drink filthy surface water from stagnant pools, thousands of people die every year from typhoid, cholera and other preventable diseases.

Wishing Wells

Every day, poverty continues to rob people of their dignity. For millions of people, their only wish is to be able to lead themselves out of poverty and provide a future for their loved ones.

Millions of children are forced to spend hours every day collecting water from filthy rivers depriving them of the education that they so vitally need.

Salam Charity is on the ground building lifesaving water wells in some of the poorest areas in the world, providing sustainable drinking sources for generations to come.

Donor Update regarding Sara's Wishing Well

Salam Dear Donor,

I pray you are well and in the best of health. Ameen.

First of all, I wanted to thank you for not only your contribution to Sara's wishing well appeal, but also your patience in waiting for our update.

Alhumdulillah, you helped raise £1,410, by the grace of Allah.

Your trust in our work in delivering this amaana is overwhelming to say the least. We are an extremely small team made up of 1 full time staff member and a few casual part time workers, who work tirelessly to try and ensure we deliver on all fronts. Your duas are always welcomed.

Originally, we wanted to build a well in Yemen, but due to internal tribal conflicts, this was made impossible, hence the delay in figuring out the best possible steps moving forward, ensuring we utilise the funds in the most effective way.

We decided £600 to be used to build a water well in Bangladesh and the remainder being put towards the work of sustaining a reservoir in Yemen. The reservoir will support thousands of people, and is the most efficient way to support the people of Yemen long term inshaa'Allah.

The work is still continuing, and we will of course provide further updates on progress and again on completion inshaa'Allah. We would like to stress that this would not have been possible without your support, and we can only hope you continue to trust in our humble efforts.

For now, I attach photos of the wishing well that will be built in Bangladesh, and as soon as I receive the images of the reservoir I'll send those across too, insha'Allah.

If you have any further questions, please do feel free to reach out to myself or our Head of Fundraising ( @ zidan.qureshi@salamcharity.org.uk

May Allah bless you and your loved ones. Ameen.

Jaza ka Allah khairun.

Updates on the well - alternative options

Dearest Donors.

I hope you are all keeping well and are in good health.

I just wanted to post an update on progress of this fundraiser and to share with you some news that are not ideal but I am sure the proposed alternatives are as good.

Unfortunately, as the situation escalates badly in the country, we have received news from our partners that they will not be able to build a well at this time due to many obvious reasons. This is not ideal, but I have 3 options here to present to you.

1. I can shift the donations to provide emergency relief to the people of Yemen which is easier to provide than it would be to build a well at this time.

2. Option 2 is to transfer the money to build a well in Bangladesh in the city of Sylhet who are in desperate need for clean water.

3. The last option is if you prefer a refund then please email me or text me and I am more than happy to refund your donation.

If you have a preference where you would like for your donations to go please email me. if you don't mind I will redirect based on highest amount of funds into one pot.

I want to thank you for all your support and helping me reach this funding amount.

May you be rewarded immensely for your good deeds.

Yours Sincerely

Sara
