The Need Is Ongoing

Together with our team and partners, Miry's List is proud to announce our 2022 Rapid Response program, providing urgently needed items like beds, clothing and shoes, space heaters, kitchen supplies, groceries, rugs and other high priority "Survive" essentials that resettling refugees families need now and can't wait for.

This is a high-impact program for families in the initial "Survive" stage of our 12-month program for new arrivals.

History of the Program:

Miry's List launched the program in April 2021 under its original name, Bed Fund for Refugees, later evolving into the Emergency Action Fund for Afghan Families in August, 2021. We have since spent over $270,000 providing the most important basic essentials for setting up the homes for 238 new arrival Afghan families.

Though we launched this program as an emergency action response to the 2021 humanitarian crisis for Afghans, we have seen how critical it is to provide these needed essentials upfront without delay. 

The 2022 Rapid Response program make the program ongoing as part of our "Survive" pillar, ensuring that Miry's List has the ability to respond to family's needs without delay.

You can be a lifeline for Afghan families in need in the United States. In the first 2 weeks of August, 2021, we enrolled 12 new arrival families from Afghanistan, most of whom arrived to the U.S. in the last 60 days. For our team, slowing down is not an option. These families have urgent needs, and we expect demand to continue to increase in the coming weeks and months. We are working very hard to make sure our capacity is open and we have the resources that we need to be here to help the families who will arrive in the months ahead. Thank you for helping.

ABOUT THIS FUND

The Emergency Action Fund is designated specifically for Afghan families and children resettling in the U.S. as refugees following evacuation. This fund gives us the ability to purchase critical items for families at the moment that they need them most. Funds will be used to purchase items to make new arrival family's homes functional and comfortable for their family, including: Bedding, Bed Frames, Pillows, Cribs, Clothing, Shoes, Hygiene Products, Cleaning & Laundry Products, Baby & Childcare Supplies, Kitchen Supplies, Bathroom & Household Supplies, and School Supplies.

ABOUT MIRY’S LIST

Miry’s List is a nonprofit organization that provides a mechanism for people to directly help new arrival refugee families with the incredible challenge of resettlement in the United States. We help newcomers connect with caring people, basic necessities, and services that make this process less isolating and less intimidating. Our work at Miry’s List ensures that new arrival families are welcomed and prepared to thrive in their new lives in the U.S. Since 2016, we’ve helped over 600 newcomer families who have come through the US Federal Refugee Admissions program from countries including Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran.

Resettling families come to the United States with multiple young children (50% of the families we serve have more than 2 children under age 5), speaking limited English, and carrying trauma and loss. They are often arriving with just themselves and their documents, housed in empty or sparsely furnished apartments, lacking adequate resources to meet their most basic needs. 

During the current humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, demand for Miry's List program has more than doubled. We accepted twice the number of families this August than last and there are three times as many individuals in our program today as there were one year ago.

Resettling families are going through unimaginable hardship and need your help. But in so much darkness, there is ALWAYS hope.
